The Ministry of Disaster Management states that 33 people have lost their lives and 27 others have been injured due to heavy rains and ongoing flooding in recent days.
Sayeq Janan, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Disaster Management of the Taliban administration, announced on Sunday, April 14th, that in addition to the recent floods’ deaths, nearly 606 houses have been destroyed, and 1,950 hectares of agricultural land have been damaged.
According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Disaster Management, most provinces of Afghanistan have witnessed ongoing floods since Saturday, resulting in both loss of life and extensive financial damage.
According to him, recent rains have caused flooding in the provinces of Badghis, Uruzgan, Farah, Kandahar, Takhar, Zabul, Parwan, Nangarhar, Helmand, Kabul, Khost, Daykundi, Konar, Kapisa, Panjshir, Paktika, Paktia, Logar, Laghman, and Herat.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Disaster Management cited the destruction of approximately 85 kilometers of main roads and secondary roads, the loss of 200 livestock, and the displacement of over a thousand families as other consequences of the recent floods in the country.
He added that since the beginning of the month, emergency assistance has been distributed to 22,851 vulnerable and impoverished families in collaboration with national and international organizations.
The Ministry of Disaster Management has issued a warning that based on meteorological information, rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days.
