The recent story by CNN talks about the Russian arms for Taliban in Afghanistan. But the entire claim rests on some weapons being paraded before CNN camera, with no manufacturer markings and some masked purported Taliban commander talking about the supply. This story is similar to stories on Libya and Syria, which were exaggerated at that time to create a pro-war narrative, leading to the Western intervention in both the peaceful countries.
This also belies Afghan and US allegations that Pakistan is the sole supporter of Taliban. Meanwhile Iran is supporting them too as a force against IS. Russia, too, thinks the same way.
One thing to consider here is how can Russia, under the nose of Nato, ISAF and ANSF forces, so easily arm the Taliban?
