Afghan Studies Center wishes everyone a Happy Nowruz!

Nowruz, literally translated as ‘New Day,’ is a spring festival celebrated in Afghanistan every year on March 21 to mark the end of the old year and the start of a new one. Besides Afghanistan, the festival is celebrated by millions of people worldwide everywhere, including countries like Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The festival can be traced to Zoroastrianism which founded in Persia about 3,500 years ago and is deeply rooted in the rituals and traditions of the monotheistic religion.

On the eve of Nowruz, families get together to celebrate the beginning of a new year and a hopeful new life. On this auspicious occasion, Afghan Studies Center hopes for peace, freedom and prosperity for all.
