The role of women in the ranks of security institutions should be significant in peace, said Female army soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA).
Some female participants of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in the western parts of the country demanded the protection of women’s rights in the peace process, on Thursday. They highlighted that women in the ranks of the Afghan security institutions must be given representation in the potential peace agreement with the Taliban. More broadly, they didn’t want anyone to ignore the achievements that the Afghan women have made in various fields in the past two decades. Moreover, they demanded that the political arrangement that will come out of the potential peace agreement between the Afghan government and the Taliban shouldn’t sacrifice the rights of the Afghan women.
Women in Afghanistan have made great progresses in numerous fields in the previous two decades since the downfall of the Taliban regime. But with the initiation of peace talks between the government and the Taliban and the likelihood of the inclusion of the next government, women are concerned that their activities and opportunities might get limited again.
The women of Afghanistan believe that no society is complete without the women, and have high hopes for the future, that they will be given the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with men for the prosperity of the country.
