Owing to the brimming crisis in Afghanistan, a number of momentous steps have been taken by the global community this week.
The UN has sent 32 million of cash as part of its humanitarian aid assistance to the war-ravaged country, announced Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), the central bank of Afghanistan. DAB stated that the money was delivered to Afghanistan International Bank (AIB) on January 20, 2022, Thursday (reported Khaama Press). The international agency will provide $20 million weekly until March to the country. DAB said that this will certainly help the perilous economic and banking systems of the country that are on the verge of collapse. Economists believe Afghani will keep depreciating until the injection of dollars to Afghanistan’s market.
Besides , the EU has officially resumed its diplomatic mission in Kabul, reported the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. While the EU office in Afghanistan has become operational, the European Union foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell had announced last month that the engagement with the Islamic Emirate is necessary, but added that it should be conditional. Some of the conditions put forward by EU are:
- Afghanistan should not serve as a base for the export of terrorism to other countries;
- Respect for human rights, especially women’s rights, the rule of law and freedom of media;
- Formation of an inclusive and representative government;
- Allow free access to humanitarian aid provided by the EU;
- Provide safe passage for foreign nationals and at-risk Afghans.
On the other hand, The MOFA spokesperson of the IEA, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, has also announced that apart from the 220 million euro humanitarian aid, EU is to initiate 268 million euro projects in Afghanistan which will be channelled through the UN agencies in the country.
Though the IEA is yet to be recognized, many countries have started consular services in Afghanistan.
