European Union’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, paid a visit to Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA). In the meeting, the EU official emphasized the significance of the IEA’s joining the third Doha meeting as far as the sensitivity and significance of the issues to be discussed in Doha was concerned. He also shared his observations about this meeting with FM Muttaqi.
Later, FM Muttaqi highlighted his productive discussion with UN Deputy Secretary General Mrs. Rosemary Anne DiCarlo in Kabul. He mentioned that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is currently researching the framework for the 3rd Doha meeting and will announce its stance afterwards.
Political activists and academics, both within Afghanistan and internationally, consider the Doha meeting to be crucial for the Afghan people. They believe that adhering to legitimate demands is essential not only for the Taliban but also for the international community.
Earlier, two separate delegations, from the United Nations and Qatar, in meetings with the officials of the Islamic Emirate, had also emphasized the participation of the caretaker government in the third Doha meeting.
The third meeting of national special representatives, hosted by the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Afghanistan, is scheduled to be held on June 30 and July 1 of the current year in Qatar.
