At least nine Afghan security force members were killed in a Taliban attack on Wednesday night in Faryab province, local officials said Thursday.

Mohammad Saleh Saleh Almar district governor said that Taliban insurgents attacked several check posts in Chaghatak village of Almar district at around 9pm on Wednesday night and killed nine security forces.

Fifteen other soldiers were wounded in the incident, Saleh said.

Saleh said the Taliban also suffered casualties, but he did not give details.

Abdul Karim Yourish Faryab police spokesman confirmed the attacks and said a clash between the security forces and the insurgents lasted for eight hours.

Yourish said that during the clash 11 Taliban were killed and eight others were wounded.

Mohammad Amin a Taliban local commander was also killed in the clash with security forces, Yourish added.
