SHUSHA: Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reiterated his country’s steadfast commitment to supporting Afghanistan during the Informal Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Shusha, Azerbaijan. Highlighting Afghanistan’s plight amidst global conflicts, Mirziyoyev emphasized the need for concerted international action to address the challenges faced by the Afghan people.
Speaking at the summit, Uzbek media reported Mirziyoyev’s call for greater attention to Afghanistan, which he described as having been overshadowed by conflicts in other parts of the world. He underscored the significant Turkic population residing in Afghanistan and the urgent humanitarian needs arising from ongoing turmoil.
“Unfortunately, due to the intensification of wars and conflicts in other regions of the world, the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, where millions of Turkic people live, has fallen out of the international community’s attention,” President Mirziyoyev stated.
Mirziyoyev reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to providing necessary assistance to Afghanistan, expressing solidarity with the Afghan people in their pursuit of stability and development.
“We believe that the return of Afghanistan’s frozen financial assets abroad will help alleviate the social situation in the country,” Mirziyoyev added.
The Uzbek President called upon member states of the OTS to collaborate closely in addressing the challenges confronting Afghanistan. He advocated for a coordinated approach to stabilize the country and support its reconstruction efforts.
